It all began with a dream - a passion for wine is a characteristic of the Cesari family: Umberto's father Ilario owned one of the historic osterias in Bologna. Umberto was not content to carry on his father's business. He not only wanted to sell wine, but also to produce top quality wine himself. At the beginning of the 1960s, Umberto Cesari acquired 20 hectares of vineyards in the hills of Castel San Pietro, where he founded the company to which he gave his name and dedicated his life's purpose: to make his Sangiovese known and appreciated beyond the borders as a top-quality wine. Umberto Cesari was one of the first to believe in the qualities of the Sangiovese grape and spread its benefits internationally.
