Ceylon tea refers to a type of tea from the tea-growing region in former Ceylon, now Sri Lanka. Ceylon teas are high-yielding and relatively insensitive to hard water. They are highly prized for English tea blends and are usually enjoyed with a little milk.
The three major tea growing areas in Sri Lanka are Uva, Dimbula and Nuwara Eliya. The best quality tea comes from steep altitudes of 1200 meters with sufficient humidity and rainfall, because the tea plant does not tolerate waterlogging.
